A reliable and precise Shimano drivetrain provides a robust 2x9-speed setup capable of handling a wide range of riding conditions, while powerful Shimano hydraulic disc brakes deliver confident stopping power to complete an exceptional package.

At the heart of the Rockhopper is a lightweight yet durable Premium A1 Aluminum frame. The butted alloy construction features hydroformed top and down tubes to keep weight low while maintaining strength. Increased standover clearance, sleek internal cable routing, dropper-post compatibility, stealth rack mounts, and a replaceable alloy derailleur hanger make the frame both practical and versatile.

To ensure the best fit and performance for every rider, each Rockhopper frame size is paired with the optimal wheel size. The result is a bike that fits every rider properly while delivering the best possible handling characteristics for its frame size.

For the first time, Specialized brings its Rx Tune technology to the Rockhopper. The SR Suntour XCM fork with custom Multi-Circuit damping features size-specific travel and spring rates, ensuring consistent geometry, handling, and suspension performance regardless of frame or wheel size.

Completing the package is a wheelset built around dependable Formula hubs and Specialized alloy rims with a 25mm internal width, creating a combination that is strong, lightweight, and durable.

Technical Specifications

Frameset

The frame is constructed from Specialized Premium A1 Butted Alloy and features a zero-stack head tube, internal cable routing, 135x9mm forged dropouts, chainstay-mounted disc brake, replaceable alloy derailleur hanger, stealth rack mounts, and dropper-post compatibility.

The seat binder is an alloy quick-release design measuring 34.9mm.

Suspension

The SR Suntour XCM fork features 30mm stanchions, Rx Tune technology, a coil spring, quick-release axle, size-specific travel of 80/90/100mm, and a 42mm offset.

Brakes

Braking duties are handled by Shimano BR-MT200 hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm rotors front and rear.

Drivetrain

Shifting is provided by Shimano Altus RapidFire Plus 9-speed shifters. The front derailleur is a Shimano Altus FD-M2020 2-speed unit, while the rear derailleur is a Shimano Shadow RD-M2000 9-speed model.

The drivetrain is completed with a SunRace 9-speed 11-36T cassette, a KMC X9EPT 9-speed chain featuring an anti-corrosion coating and reusable Missing Link™, a forged alloy Stout 2x crankset, and a square-tapered bottom bracket with a 73mm shell, internal bearings, and a 122.5mm spindle.

Wheels & Tires

The wheelset features Specialized alloy double-wall disc rims with a 25mm internal width and 32-hole construction.

The front hub is a Formula 6-bolt disc hub with 100x9mm quick-release spacing and 32 holes. The rear hub is a Formula SP-2125 6-bolt freehub with 135x9mm quick-release spacing.

The wheels are laced with 14-gauge stainless steel spokes and fitted with standard 40mm Schrader valve inner tubes.

Both the front and rear use Fast Trak Sport tires in either 27.5x2.35 or 29x2.35 sizing, depending on frame size.

Cockpit

The cockpit includes a Stout 3D-forged alloy stem with a 31.8mm clamp diameter and 6-degree rise. The handlebars are an Alloy Mini Rise design featuring a 9-degree backsweep, 15mm rise, and 31.8mm clamp diameter.

Specialized Trail lock-on grips provide control and comfort, while a Bridge Sport saddle with steel rails is available in 155mm or 143mm widths. The seatpost is an alloy 30.9mm model with a two-bolt clamp design.
