Specialized Chisel Full Suspension – Product Details
The lightest and fastest alloy full-suspension bike in its class, the Chisel is 18.4% lighter than its closest competitor and shares its geometry and kinematics with the World Cup-ready Specialized Epic 8 mountain bike. It delivers responsive, race-level performance whether you’re riding competitively or pushing your limits on local trails.
Thanks to D’Aluisio Smartweld construction, the Chisel features one of the lightest aluminium XC frames available. The frame uses carefully engineered tube shapes and variable wall thickness to provide stiffness for efficient power transfer, while maintaining compliance for comfort and control on rough terrain.
With 110mm of Ride Dynamics tuned suspension, the Chisel inherits its performance pedigree directly from the Epic 8. Its advanced suspension kinematics and progressive geometry, refined on demanding World Cup courses, allow it to handle a wide range of terrain with confidence and speed.
Efficiency is a defining characteristic of this bike. The steep seat tube angle positions the rider optimally for pedalling, while refined anti-squat characteristics reduce pedal bob. This ensures that every watt of energy is transferred into forward motion.
The flex-stay rear end design delivers excellent suspension performance while reducing weight and maintenance by eliminating traditional pivot hardware. Although commonly used in carbon frames, this design has been successfully implemented in the Chisel’s advanced alloy construction.
Additional weight savings come from a one-piece hydroformed seat tube that integrates the seat tube pivot, main pivot, and bottom bracket shell into a single structure, improving strength while reducing excess material.
Key Features
The frame is built using D’Aluisio Smartweld hydroformed tubes with engineered junctions and includes flip-chip geometry adjustment with 110mm of rear travel. Suspension is handled by a RockShox SID fork with 120mm travel and Rush damper, paired with a Ride Dynamics tuned RockShox Deluxe Select+ rear shock.
The bike includes a TranzX dropper post for improved descending control and features a SRAM GX Eagle rear derailleur for reliable 12-speed shifting.
Technical Specifications
The frameset consists of Specialized D’Aluisio Smartweld M5 alloy with hydroformed tubing, progressive XC geometry, internal cable routing, a BSA bottom bracket, 12x148mm spacing, and compatibility with a 30.9mm dropper post. The seat binder is a Specialized alloy unit measuring 34.9mm.
Suspension includes a RockShox Deluxe Select+ rear shock with Ride Dynamics tuning, two-position adjustment, and rebound control in a 190x40mm size. The front suspension is a RockShox SID fork with a Rush damper, 44mm offset, 15x110mm thru-axle, and 120mm of travel, using a Maxle Stealth system.
Braking is provided by SRAM Level T hydraulic disc brakes with 2-piston calipers, using a 180mm rotor at the front and a 160mm rotor at the rear.
The drivetrain features SRAM GX 12-speed trigger shifters paired with a SRAM GX Eagle rear derailleur. The cassette is a SRAM PG-1230 Eagle with an 11–50T range, combined with a SRAM SX Eagle 12-speed chain. The crankset is a SRAM X1000 Eagle with a DUB interface, available in 165, 170, or 175mm lengths, fitted with a 32T chainring. The bottom bracket is a SRAM DUB BSA 73mm threaded unit.
The wheelset uses Specialized alloy rims that are tubeless-ready with a 27mm internal width. The front hub is a Specialized alloy unit with sealed cartridge bearings, a 6-bolt disc mount, and a 15x110mm thru-axle. The rear hub is also Specialized alloy with sealed cartridge bearings, a 6-bolt mount, and a 12x148mm thru-axle. Stainless 14g spokes are used throughout.
The front tyre is a Specialized Ground Control in 29x2.35 with Control casing and T5 compound, while the rear tyre is a Specialized Fast Trak in the same size and compound. Standard inner tubes with 40mm valves are included.
The cockpit includes a Specialized 3D-forged alloy stem with a 7-degree rise, paired with a 760mm wide Specialized alloy handlebar with 20mm rise and 31.8mm clamp diameter. Grips are Specialized Trail Grips, and the saddle is a Body Geometry Power Sport with steel rails. The TranzX dropper post varies by size, offering 100mm travel on XS, 125mm on small to medium, and 150mm on large to extra-large frames.
Additional Details
The product ID is 221770. The bike weighs 12.80 kg (28 lb, 3.5 oz) in a medium size.
